McGRATHPR.com – Sandwich Arts Alliance (SAA), an artist-driven nonprofit supporting Cape Cod’s arts and artists, presents a winter events season featuring visual, performing, and literary arts events and programs, at its new location at 130 Main Street, Sandwich, and other community venues.  SAA is home to a beautiful art gallery, gift shop, and bookstore, featuring the works of local and regional artists in gallery openings, exhibits and special events. A Night of Holiday Musical Brilliance ~ with New England Brass Band

New England’s premier brass band presents a sounds of the season performance to delight all!  New England Brass Band creates a challenging environment for accomplished musicians to celebrate and preserve the unique “British brass band” sound, and share the passion with the community through performances, education, and outreach, led by world-renowned Music Director Terry Everson.

Sandwich Chamber of Commerce’s Village Stroll

Sunday, December 10, 12 to 4:30 pm

Sandwich Arts Alliance is a location on the route at 130 Main Street, Sandwich

Admission is free

The 2nd annual Sandwich Village Stroll explores the community’s charming downtown district through Main Street, Jarves Street, and Route 6A, where attendees experience merchant open houses, family fun, and music and dance performances in front of the Belfry Inn, all while savoring delicious food and libations in Sandwich’s historic downtown area.

Acrylic Painting Exploration ~ with Instructor Peggy Richard

Thursdays, November 9, 16, 30; December 14, 28, 12:30 to 3:30 pm

Fee:  $150 members, $175 non-members

This class welcomes students of all levels. Come explore the diversity of acrylic paint, in a fun and cooperative setting!  Each week through observation, guided instruction, and hands-on experimentation you’ll explore a new painting challenge. Students complete the class with five paintings, a set of skills and newfound confidence! Materials list is available on the workshop registration page at sandwichartsalliance.org.

Needle Felting Ornaments Workshop ~ with Instructor Isabel Stearns

Wednesday, November 16, 4 to 6 pm

Sandwich Arts Alliance, 130 Main Street, Sandwich

Fee:  $40 members, $50 non-members; supplies included

At this workshop students are introduced to the basic needle felting techniques.  Create ornaments, such as stars and gingerbread. A fun workshop for all levels.​ All materials are included. Instructor Isabel was introduced to felting as a child attending the Waldorf School of Cape Cod, and later rediscovered felting as a therapeutic art form. Today, inspired by her environment, Isabel crafts for the love of it!

Festive Lighthouses: Watercolor/Mixed Media ~ with Instructor Leonie Little-Lex

Students explore diverse lighthouse silhouettes and styles, and the various approaches artists have applied to portray them. Learn to add festive touches including wreaths, falling snow, and starry skies. The workshop also covers methods to render light and illumination, create a strong composition in your work, and more.

Whales & Ocean Scenes: Watercolor/Mixed Media ~ with Instructor Leonie Little-Lex

Wednesday, December 6, 10 am to 1 pm

Cape Cod is famous for its visiting whale population – come learn how to draw and paint these gentle giants of the sea. Part one of the workshop focuses on capturing their basic shapes, unique characteristics, and personalities. In part two, transfer your favorite drawing to watercolor paper, and use mixed-media techniques to create a beautiful, full-color painting! Students explore a variety of mediums and learn how to apply them in tandem. No drawing or painting experience required.

Creative Crescendo ~ with Instructors Michael Berndt and Bridgette Salvon-Berndt

Tuesday, January 9, 1 to 4 pm

An exploratory workshop investigating methods to develop and strengthen creativity in visual arts by experimenting and interacting with a variety of music genres – a workout for your brain rather than your body! Workshop participants won’t produce a finished piece or to learn a specific technique, but rather develop a pathway to increase creativity and consider new ways of thinking about our art.

Playwriting ~ with Instructor Jane Hattemer-Stringer

Thursdays, January 11 through February 15, 3 to 6 pm

Fee:  $180 members, $210 non-members; includes supplies

To write a play, the writer needs to hear their dialogue spoken aloud, followed by immediate constructive feedback. This class delivers and keeps the creative juices flowing.  Instructor Jane offers in-class and outside writing assignments, all skill levels are welcomed. A showcase featuring participant works with a live audience will be held at the end of the term, date TBA.

This exchange, open to all, is held on the second Wednesday of each month. It offers a variety of programs from speakers to casual, convivial information exchanges on writing and publishing. ​

A Gathering of Poets

A supportive and informative poetry critique group, meeting monthly, all are welcome.  Attendees read their poems aloud each session, consider suggestions, and make observations.

The Writers’ Critique Group

Thursdays, November 2 and 16, December 7 and 21, January 4 and 18, 1 to 2 pm

A group of writers meeting twice monthly.  A chapter of a current project is emailed to group members, read, and critiqued, and brought to the meeting where it is read aloud and further discussed.  Supportive, encouraging, and informative, all are welcome.

About Sandwich Arts Alliance

Founded in 2015, Sandwich Arts Alliance (SAA) is an artist-driven nonprofit organization supporting the arts and artists – serving as a platform for new works, cultivating the creative economy, and culturally enriching  the Sandwich and greater Cape Cod communities.

Sandwich Arts Alliance is comprised of four groups that meet regularly: Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Literary Arts and Friends of the Arts.  Membership is open to all artists and friends residing in Sandwich and beyond.  As part of its mission, SAA collaborates with other nonprofit and community-based organizations to help promote a wide variety of cultural programming. SAA’s goal is to identify and support all local artists through a  resource database, providing greater exposure and opportunities for fellow artist networking.
