Grammy nominee and renowned regional artists perform at The Red Lion Inn

McGRATHPR.com – “The Jon Finn Group” kicks off the new year with a live band performance on Thursday, January 19, 8 to 11 pm, at The Cave at The Red Lion Inn, 71 South Main Street, Cohasset.  Performing artists include Jon Finn, electric guitar, Juli Finn, electric guitar/vocals, Joe Santerre, bass guitar, Larry Finn, drums and Rich Cesarini, keys.  Performing artist Erin Bonnie opens the show. “The Jon Finn Group” has been performing “good music people like” as a band since 1988, a nod to their approachable, captivating approach to creating music.   Launched as a series of “fun jams” among best friend professional musician, the band has one mission: to play music they love as best they can.   For years the four-piece version of the all-instrumental rock band performed the world over at most prestigious concert venues.  Multiple album releases have been well-received among critics and fans alike.   More recently, Jon’s wife Juli (a well-known guitarist/singer/composer herself) joined the ensemble to add a new innovative layer to the band’s palette.

Singer/songwriter Juli Finn and Grammy® nominated performing/recording artist Jon Finn often engage in the music they make uniquely together, a captivating take on jazz, blues, pop and classical, covers and originals, in an organic mix of styles, songs and interpretation. Both performing artists have appeared the world over in such prestigious concert venues as Tanglewood, Carnegie Hall, Seattle’s Sky Church, Portland’s Roseland Theater and many more.  The duo also performs as part of other ensembles, including The Jon Finn Group, The Experts (70’s cover band), and sit in with other local artists.  Most recently, The Finns released a cover album plus one debut tune, honoring music legend Bonnie Raitt with “Tribute,” featuring Juli’s original “Dig Deep”, a songwriter publishing premiere.

About the Performing Artists

Jon Finn, Electric Guitar – A striking guitarist from the age of six, Jon Finn has embraced a lifelong role as a professional musician. He has been repeatedly acknowledged within the international community of musicians as a distinct leader of modern rock guitar as a performing artist, composer and educator. Jon has served as a featured member of Berklee College of Music’s guitar faculty since 1988, when he also launched his original ensemble, The Jon Finn Group.  With three internationally released albums to date, The Jon Finn Group has accomplished several independent releases and countless worldwide performances.  As a writer, Jon long penned a monthly instructional national feature for Guitar Magazine, and has authored several instructional guitar books (Mel Bay Publications), and several instructional video courses for True Fire.  As a solo artist, he has toured internationally and performed with some of the world’s premier guitarists as a featured artist, including John Petrucci, Guthrie Govan, Carl Verheyen, Dweezil Zappa, Dave Larue, Andy Timmons, Vinnie Moore, Steve Morse, Tom Scholz, Barry Goudreau, Tom Morello, Melissa Etheridge and others.  He has also performed with the national touring companies of many contemporary musicals including “Rent,” “Aida,” “Mamma Mia,” “Hairspray,” “High School Musical,” “Grease,” “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” “Copacabana,” and more. 

Jon frequently performs and records with “The Boston Pops” and “Boston Symphony Orchestra,” including appearances featuring celebrity artists Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli, Amy Grant, Vince Gill, Rockapella, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry (Aerosmith), Natalie Cole, Carly Simon, Bernadette Peters, New York Voices, Demi Lovato among others. In film, his original song “Berlin Wall” is heard in the motion picture documentary “Refusenik”, and on television, Jon’s guitar is heard on the NFL theme song. He has engaged in eight concert tours spanning the United States, and one tour across Asia.  From his studio work on album collaborations, two of his six album recordings have been nominated for Grammy Awards®.

Juli Finn, Electric Guitar/Vocals – As a songwriter, recording and performing artist, guitarist, recording session guitarist, and a guitar instructor, Juli enjoys a successful career in music.  She was a founding member of the instrumental trio “Destiny” and has performed live nationally, opening for artists such as Joe Satriani, Robin Trower, Ronnie James Dio, and “Blue Oyster Cult.” She released a full-length album with “Destiny,” later releasing two solo recordings, an EP and full-length album. She has won numerous guitar competitions, and at millions of views, is a YouTube sensation. Prior to relocating to Boston, she performed with “Rhythm Nation,” the Pacific Northwest’s premiere dance band, and “DanceMaxx Band,” a Disco/Funk sensation. She performs in concert around New England with local 80’s band “Fast Times,” classic 70’s rock band The Experts, and “The Jon Finn Group.” She has performed in numerous professional musicals, including “Seussical,” “Nice Work if You Can Get It,” “The Bridges of Madison County,” and “The Altar Boyz”. Juli holds a bachelor’s degree in Guitar Performance from Berklee College of Music, graduating Summa Cum Laude, where she currently teaches guitar and is earning her Master of Arts degree in songwriting.  She also currently serves as Assistant Professor of Songwriting at Shenandoah University.  To learn more, visit julifinn.com.

Joe Santerre, Electric Bass – plays primarily six-string electric bass with The Jon Finn Group. Joe has been teaching at Berklee College of Music since 1984 as the first primarily six-string bass player in the Bass Department. He served as a contributing writer for Bass Frontiers Magazine for seven years. Joe has also published three bass books for Berklee Press/Hal Leonard Publications and recorded instructional bass video lessons for Jamplay.com. Joe likes to make the groove feel good, as heard on his solo album, “The Scenic Route.” Joe has recorded and/or performed with noteworthy performing artists including Jon Finn, Guthrie Govan, Carmen Paris, Chad Wackerman, (Alan Holdsworth, Zappa), Mike Mangini (Dream Theater) Dave DiCenso (JFG, Hiromi) Larry Finn, Mark Walker (Paquito D’Rivera), Danny McClain (Earth Wind & Fire), Steve Morse (Dixie Dregs), Steve Hunt (Stanley Clarke, Alan Holdsworth), George Garzone, John Blackwell (Prince, Justin Timberlake), Casey Schuerell (Jean Luc Ponty), Equie Castillo (Tito Puente),Tom Coster (Santana), Dino Govoni, and Ross Ramsay, among others.

Larry Finn, Drums – Though no family relation to Jon, the musical rapport he and Jon create together is greater than their common last name – a reflection of Larry’s unique, empathetic, and enthusiastic drumming style. Larry is one of the most popular drum instructors on the Berklee College of Music faculty, and a renowned freelance drummer with credits ranging from “The Courage Brothers” and Tiger Okoshi to “Rent.” Recently, Larry released an instructional drumming video “Accelerate Your Drumming” for Rittor Music that delivered his personal drumming style acclaim all over the world.  “Being a drummer is like being a professional athlete, in that you have to be in shape both physically and mentally. When people see a drummer playing a repetitive groove for three minutes, they likely don’t realize how hard that is to sustain. It’s a challenge to achieve the whole package – applying good technique and a musical approach – together.”

Rich Cesarini, Keys – Rich has been a well-known piano/keyboard/accordion player since the mid 1980’s. He has played and recorded with many bands in New England including the “Fat City Band,” “Po’ Boys,” “Godsends,” “Big Daddy” and “The Accelerators” and New Hampshire-based favorite “Brickyard Blues.”  Rich played keyboards on “Bus Hair,” a track from Jon Finn’s recording release “Don’t Look So Serious.” In addition to his keyboard duties in “The Experts,” Rich also performs with “The Terrifics,” an acoustic duo based on Boston’s South Shore, and with the popular New England “Grateful Dead” cover band “Deadbeat.”  Most recently, Rich opened his own music school “Southeast School of Music” in Easton, MA.
