Grammy Nominated Guitarist Jon Finn Joins ‘The Fat City Band’ Lineup for Season

Nearly half-century strong jump swing Blues/New Orleans R&B band seats renowned guitarist through 2023

McGRATHPR.com – Vastly accomplished local performing/recording artist and master guitarist Jon Finn has accepted an opportunity with one of New England’s most enduring music acts, “The Fat City Band,” a South Shore and metro-Boston music scene staple, effective immediately.  Finn arrives at this season-long appearance with a wealth of accomplishments in his pocket, currently committed to perform with the five-to-seven-piece ensemble through spring, 2023.  A Grammy® nominated artist, Finn frequently performs with his own ensemble, “The Jon Finn Group,” as well as “The Experts,”  a 70’s cover band, and sits in as celebrity guest artist with other local acts.

“We’re thrilled to add Jon, a true guitar legend to our lineup this season,” shares Paul Redmond, band founder.  Performing consistently now for generations, Redmond, the band’s energetic mainstay has been touted as “Mr. Fat City” for his powerhouse, magnetic presence on lead vocals and harmonica, and captivating original lyrics.

Committed to their mantra of “music should be fun,” “The Fat City Band” approaches legends-of-stage status, now in its 48th year, performing jump swing Blues and New Orleans-style rhythm and blues music.  Fat City diversifies its concert stage soundtrack, rich in roots of rock ‘n’ roll, New Orleans gumbo and boogie-woogie – a melting pot mashup of smoky roadhouse tunes.  Equipped with a bounty of groupie fans, even first-time listeners appreciate the band’s original music that captures the essence of their legendary predecessors, most recently boasting a horn section, heightening audience experiences to unforgettable status. 

Finn, together with his wife/guitarist/educator Juli Finn, most recently debuted their latest album “Tribute,” an amalgamation of Bonnie Raitt covers plus one original tune in homage to the celebrity artist.  The album’s band, including Juli and Jon Finn on guitar and vocals, Joe Santerre, bass guitar, Larry Finn, drums, also featured “The Fat City Band” musician Rich Cesarini on keys, all longtime Finn comrades.

About Jon Finn – A striking guitarist from the age of six, Jon Finn has embraced a lifelong role as professional musician. He has been repeatedly acknowledged within the international community of musicians as a distinct leader of modern rock guitar as a performing artist, composer, and educator. Jon has served as a featured member of Berklee College of Music’s guitar faculty since 1988, when he also launched his original ensemble, The Jon Finn Group.  With three internationally released albums to date, The Jon Finn Group has accomplished several independent releases and countless worldwide performances.  As a writer, Jon long penned a monthly instructional national feature Guitar magazine and has authored several instructional guitar books (Mel Bay Publications), with several more currently in production.  As a solo artist, he has toured internationally and performed with some of the world’s premier guitarists as a featured artist, including John Petrucci, Guthrie Govan, Carl Verheyen, Dweezil Zappa, Dave Larue, Andy Timmons, Vinnie Moore, Steve Morse, Tom Scholz, Barry Goudreau, Tom Morello, and others.  He has also performed with the national touring companies of many contemporary musicals including Rent, Aida, Mamma Mia, Hairspray, High School Musical, Grease, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Copacabana, and more. 

Jon frequently performs and records with the Boston Pops Orchestra and Boston Symphony Orchestra, including appearances that have featured Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli, Amy Grant, Vince Gill, Rockapella, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry (Aerosmith), Natalie Cole, Carly Simon, Bernadette Peters, New York Voices, Demi Lovato, among others. In film, his original song “Berlin Wall” is heard in the motion picture documentary “Refusenik”, and on television, Jon’s guitar is heard on the NFL theme song. From his studio work on album collaborations, his recordings have been nominated for two Grammy Awards®.  Jon holds a bachelor’s degree in Traditional Performance from Berklee College of Music.  To learn more, visit jonfinn.com or TrueFire.com.
