South Shore Ballet Theatre Hosts Nutcracker Community Auditions

Dancers from across the region are invited to audition for the school’s beloved annual holiday production

McGRATHPR.com – South Shore Ballet Theatre (SSBT), the region’s pre-professional ballet school, welcomes dancers from across the region to “Nutcracker Community Dancer Auditions” on Saturday, September 10, from 9:30 am to 12 noon, arranged in time slots by age range, at its studios at 45 Industrial Park Road, Hingham. Auditions are open to the public and free to attend.

SSBT invites dancers from the South Shore region who have interest in performing to its “Nutcracker Community Dancer Auditions” to be considered for its annual holiday season production of “The Nutcracker.”  Most roles are open, except for the roles of Clara, Sugar Plum Fairy, Cavalier and Dew Drop, cast from within the school’s student roster and by SSBT alumni.  Dancers and families will be greeted by SSBT Artistic Director Marthavan McKeon while visiting the school’s beautiful facility.

Audition Schedule:

Boys’ Audition – 9:30 to 10:30 am

Dancers ages 8 to 10 – 12:00 to 1:00 pm

Dancers ages 11 to 13 – 10:30 to 12:00 noon

Dancers ages 14 and up – 10:30 to 12:00 noon

Callbacks – 1:00 to 2:30 pm

Audition candidates should arrive at SSBT’s studios 15 minutes prior to their audition time for check in, dressed in ballet attire (leotard, tights, and ballet slippers and pointe shoes, if available, with hair secured in a bun).  Dancers audition by participating in a ballet class and if needed, will be asked to return for call backs from 1:00 to 2:30 pm. Faculty will observe all auditioning dancers, roles will be announced the following week via email.

“The Nutcracker” performs Saturday, December 17 and Sunday, December 18 at Thayer Academy’s Center for Performing Arts in Braintree. Dancers cast in the production rehearse at SSBT’s studios weekly up to performance weekend beginning September 17. Be a part of the holiday magic!
