The Holiday Marketplace is one of the James’ most popular events, making unique gift shopping for the holidays as easy as a stop by the Library and Center for the Arts!

McGRATHPR.com – The James Library & Center for the Arts, Norwell’s historic community arts center and lending library, kicks off the holiday season with community events at 24 West Street, Norwell.

Saturday, December 1, 9 am to 3 pm

Admission is free, donations appreciated at the door

Looking for locally made, one-of-a-kind gifts this holiday season? Include the Marketplace when you shop this year. Artisans on three floors of the James offer quality pottery, soaps, culinary creations, textiles, bird decoys, jewelry, writing instruments, specialty dog foods and treats and more for unique holiday gift giving. This season’s unique craftspeople include Parker Posie Jewelry, Carberry Kitchen, Sirenetta Chocolatier, Mattapoisett Bird Works, Tiny Forest Soap Company and many more!  Holiday Marketplace sponsoring partners are the Bob Melone Team at radius financial group, Liz McCarron Team at William Raveis Real Estate, Lynch Marini & Associates Inc. Norwell Public Library Children’s Librarian Nancy Perry and Inly School Librarian, author and national book reviewer Shelley Sommer present their top picks for holiday gifts at this program. These librarians know kids and what they love to read. Let them help you pick out the perfect book for the little ones in your life. Buttonwood Books and Toys will be there with the suggested titles.  Best Books sponsoring partners are Debbie and Andy Zildjian and the Susan M. Decker Fund for Children’s Literacy.

Jazz pianist extraordinaire Tim Ray has appeared on over 80 recordings and has performed with an extensive list of pop music icons, including Aretha Franklin, Lyle Lovett and Tony Bennett and with special appearances with the Boston Pops. He’ll be joined by John Lockwood on bass and drummer Mark Walker. Classic jazz at its finest!  The Tim Ray Jazz Trio benefactor sponsor is Campanelli, and sponsoring partners are Old Derby Animal Hospital, and Kathleen and Michael Vitale.

Witness the classic tale of A Christmas Carol come beautifully to life as actor J.T. Turner portrays Charles Dickens and every single character from the story in this one-man show. Charles Dickens was famous for bringing his A Christmas Carol to life for audiences every year, and this version brings all the drama, comedy and redemption Dickens intended. Ages 8 through adult.  A Christmas Carol sponsoring partners are The Estelle Mosher Memorial Fund and the Susan M. Decker Fund for Children’s Literacy.

Since 1874, The James Library has served the South Shore community as a warm gathering place. Housed in a landmark Victorian in historical Norwell Center, The James is dedicated to serving the community by providing high-quality programs, resources and materials through a concert hall, art gallery and the operation of a free lending library.
