Fostering a Dream Fund of Cape Cod
McGRATHPR.com – Cape Cod Chamber Orchestra (CCCO), the region’s newest professional orchestra, presents its winter benefit concert Farewell to 2018, on Sunday, December 9, 3 pm, at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 533 Main Street, Rt. 28, Harwich Port. Ticket sale proceeds benefit the Fostering a Dream Fund of Cape Cod. The orchestra is conducted by Music Director Matthew Scinto. A reception follows the concert with an opportunity to meet the musicians. Farewell to 2018 is the second performance in the orchestra’s four concert inaugural season series Navigations.
“In our first season, I aspired to explore how the orchestra could navigate music, the Cape, its people, and its stories,” shares Director Scinto. “As we close in on the end of 2018, the take away is that classical music can be a highly diverse experience. Musical beauty takes many forms, finding a way to leave its impact on everyone.”
Cape Cod Chamber Orchestra bids a fond Farewell to 2018 with a program fit for a king during the holiday season. On the program, the famous ‘Farewell’ composition “Symphony No. 45 in F# minor” by Joseph Franz Haydn, Arcangelo Corelli’s ‘Christmas’ concerto “Concerto grosso in G minor, Op. 6, No. 8”, the music of Stephanie Ann Boyd “Beyond the Gate”, and Claude Debussy’s stunning display of the harp, “Danses sacrée et profane”, featuring harpist Charles Overton, guest artist.
“Several members of the orchestra are featured in Corelli’s Christmas Concerto, a work written for a Christmas service around the year 1690, and our wonderful harpist Charles Overton is in the spotlight in Debussy’s two brilliant dances,” says Scinto. “The holidays are such a time for tradition – specifically why I’ve selected repertoire that dates back to earlier times for this concert. In contrast, we’ll also perform a wonderful contemporary piece for strings “Beyond the Gate”, a work based on a poem written by the composer herself, Stephanie Ann Boyd.”
New York based composer Stephanie Ann Boyd endeavors to write music that brings whimsical worlds to life, that is meaningful to audience and performer alike, and that refreshes and strengthens the creative spirit. A two-time winner of the Chicago College of Performing Arts Vector Project, her orchestral music has been performed by the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, the Eureka Ensemble, the Cremona Academy Festival Orchestra in Italy, the Grammy® Award-winning Pioneer Symphony Orchestra in Ann Arbor and New England Conservatory Orchestra in Boston.
Farewell to 2018 in part benefits the Fostering a Dream Fund of Cape Cod. Since 2013, the fund has provided foster children and teenagers with music lessons, dance lessons, application fees for college, and many more opportunities. The Fostering a Dream Fund is a project of the nonprofit Covenant to Care for Foster Families program of The Cape Cod Council of Churches. In partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Children & Families Cape office, Covenant to Care matches Cape Cod and surrounding islands’ congregations with a foster care family, supporting parents and children in their care. Parishes “adopt” the families to offer support and other needs not covered by the state’s financial allocation, like summer camp tuition, bicycles, eye glasses and more for vulnerable children.
“I am so pleased to have discovered the Fostering a Dream Fund, as it speaks directly to the orchestra’s mission to give back to the Cape Cod community,” notes Scinto. “This concert will help provide children in the foster care system the opportunity to express themselves in creative capacities. My hope is that this concert brings more awareness to this very special fund.”
“Foster children are oftentimes a forgotten population,” says Miriam Erickson, Covenant to Care for Foster Families program director. “The Fostering a Dream Fund works to make foster children’s lives a little more happy by raising funds to add normalcy to their lives. Imagine my delight to be the benefactor of the orchestra’s giving. We are very grateful!”
CCCO’s first season Navigations is inspired by Scinto’s vision for the future of classical music on Cape Cod. He is fulfilling his mission to collaborate with local Cape individuals, arts organizations, and causes to create a unique concert experience of high quality, enriching, and memorable orchestral music. Featuring living composers is at the forefront of his plans; bringing audiences closer to music and the beauty found across Cape Cod communities.

About Dr. Matthew Scinto, Conductor
Matthew Scinto is an emerging conductor based in Cape Cod, where he currently serves as the Founder and Conductor of the Cape Cod Chamber Orchestra and Assistant Conductor of the Boston Civic Symphony under Music Director Francisco Noya. Mr. Scinto received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Conducting from Boston University, where he was a student of Stefan Asbury and David Hoose and twice received the Conducting Department Award for Excellence in Conducting. Mr. Scinto has studied conducting at the prestigious Tanglewood Music Center, and was invited back again in July 2018. While at Boston University, Mr. Scinto served as the Assistant Conductor of the Boston University Symphony, Chamber, and Opera Orchestras where he covered and conducted in numerous concerts and opera productions, including Boston University’s recent production of Le Nozze di Figaro in 2017. Matthew Scinto has worked with conductors Bramwell Tovey, Ken-David Masur, Stefan Asbury, Diane Wittry, Daniel Hege, Marin Alsop, David Effron, and Markand Thakar. He has conducted such orchestras as the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, Symphoria, the New Haven Civic Orchestra, the Brandeis-Wellesley Orchestra, the Greater Bridgeport Youth Orchestras, the Indian Hill Sinfonia, the Miami Music Festival Orchestra, the Syracuse University Symphony, and the Boston University Symphony and Chamber Orchestras.
