The Company Theatre’s A.C.T. Summer Workshop Announces New Flexible Programs

McGRATHPR.com – The Academy of the Company Theatre’s 2018 (A.C.T.) Summer Workshop youth arts program, now registering students ages 5 through 18, announces new diverse custom schedule arts programs for this summer’s students. Classes are held from June 25 and June 26 from 3:30 to 7 pm (accommodating late snow day summer school release), and June 27 through July 13 on weekdays from 9 am to 3 pm.  A special extended day program for teen students offering a full production of The Rocky Horror Show is also available.  All programs are held at The Company Theatre Center for the Performing Arts, 30 Accord Park Drive, Norwell.  Early registration is recommended as the program is amongst the most popular on the South Shore.

A.C.T. Summer Workshop gives students ages 8 to 18 the opportunity to spark creativity and build self-confidence by experiencing the arts in a supportive and fun environment alongside professional artist-faculty.  Students are able to program individualized “flex-schedules” by choosing six classes per day from more than 70 available in the performing and visual arts.

This season, the most creative programs yet are available to students of all skill levels.  Just a few of the new selections this year include Performance Art (ages 12 through 18), an advanced class combining acting, music, movement, slides, video, and special effects, offering a journey through the arts resulting in a multi-media performance.

Monster Dance (ages 8 through 11) allows students to unleash their inner monster by learning how to move like one!  Participants learn a dance routine to a cool, creepy song!

Playwriting (ages 12 through 18), taught by accomplished teen playwright Alex Moon, allows students to take their ideas from brain to page to stage as they explores the unique structure, craft, and style of writing for theatre. Students learn the fundamentals of dramatic writing as they create their own scripts and examine the techniques behind some of their favorite scenes from stage and screen.

A.C.T. Contemporaries (ages 13 through 18) offer teens enrolled in the dance pre-professional track a two-period class with focused training on dance technique, style, and choreography. The class learns and creates their own choreography by exploring choreographic techniques, movement qualities, and other sources of inspiration. The Contemporaries perform a one-act of various styles of dance that showcases their work at the season-culminating Arts Festival Day.

Commedia Dell’ Arte (ages 8 through 18) takes students on a virtual trip to Italy long ago, when Improv was the thing, and colorful masks were the tool to tell fascinating stories. Students create masks and have a blast creating their own interpretations of funny stories.

For the youngest students, A.C.T. Jr. for ages 5 to 7 in a shortened, age appropriate program each Workshop day from 1 to 3 pm. Children spend each afternoon learning songs, dances, crafts and theatre play. This newer offering is designed to introduce young ones to the arts and explore their creativity!  Students in this program enjoy performing for their families on Friday, July 12, 2:30 pm.

Auditions for the extended program teen musical (ages 14 through 19) The Rocky Horror Show will be held on Thursday, May 31, 5 to 10 pm, and performances are held on Friday, July 12 and Saturday, July 13, 7 pm.  The performance is open to the public, tickets are $20 adults, $18 students.  Participation in The Rocky Horror Show is by audition only, an audition fee of $20 is due at the auditions.
