McGRATHPR.com – South Shore Conservatory’s (SSC) Duxbury Music Festival (DMF) presents its 13th season of exciting DMF faculty and student performances, as well as family-friendly events. The festival runs from July 13 through July 27 at venues including SSC’s Ellison Center for the Arts, private homes and the iconic Duxbury Town Green tent.

In addition to offering multiple opportunities to enjoy the very finest chamber music on the South Shore, performed by world-class musicians, DMF 2018 performances feature a variety of music including blues, R&B, tangos and other dance music influenced by Cuban and South American rhythms. DMF kicks off the season opening weekend with two performances. The Blues Concert on Friday, July 13 features cabaret seating with light bites and a cash bar.  The Overture Concert on Sunday evening, July 15, includes a performance of Stravinsky’s “A Soldier’s Tale” to mark the centenary of its premiere, as well as Schulhoff’s “Hot Sonata for saxophone and piano”  A post-concert reception features an Island Creek Oysters raw bar.

Another highlight this season is the return of founding DMF faculty member and famed pianist Oxana Yablonskaya, an instructor at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. Audience members can hear her perform solo and chamber repertoire on Tuesday, July 17, and chamber repertoire on Thursday, July 19 at the All-Bernstein Concert celebrating the centenary of the composer’s birth. Proceeds from the Bernstein concert help raise money for DMF scholarships.

DMF’s Tent Events weekend takes place July 20 through 22, and is sure to please all music lovers with four events. These include the Beatles on the Green concert on Friday, July 20 and Family Fest on Saturday, July 21, a family morning that gives the youngest music fans the opportunity to experience and interact with music. DMF’s ever-popular dinner dance Rhythm & Blues on the Green is Saturday night, July 21. To end the DMF Tent Event weekend, Sunday in the Park, featuring DMF student performers, is July 22.  South Shore Conservatory thanks Sheila and Richard Morse for sponsoring the DMF Tent.

On Monday, July 23, DMF offers a wonderful opportunity to experience a program of chamber music that offers a piano quartet, a string quartet, and a trio of oboe, bassoon, and piano in a beautiful private home in Duxbury.  On Wednesday, July 25, DMF reprises The Last Tango in Duxbury concert, with music inspired by the spirit and rhythms of South American and Cuban dances.  The Winners Concert and Farewell Reception on Friday, July 27, closes the Festival and creates a wonderful evening celebrating the next generation of great musicians, with talented DMF students.
