Kicking off the year, student actors from The Academy of The Company Theatre’s Teen Conservatory present Carrie the Musical from January 20 through 22. Carrie the Musical is based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel. Carrie White is a misfit from Chamberlain Maine who is bullied at school by the popular crowd. At home, she is at the mercy of her cruelly over-protective mother. But Carrie has just discovered she has a special power, and if pushed too far, she’s not afraid to use it.
Sing hallelujah from March 17 through April 9 for Sister Act, the ridiculously fun, feel-good musical that will have you jumping to your feet! Featuring the music of eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken, (Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, Newsies), Sister Act is the story of Delores Van Cartier, a wannabe Las Vegas diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a crime and the cops hide her in—where else– a convent! Under the suspicious and watchful eye of Mother Superior, Delores wins the sisters’ hearts, and helps them find their voices as she unexpectedly discovers her own.
Youth actors shine in The Academy of The Company Theatre’s production of The Lion King Jr. from April 21 through 30. Celebrate the “Circle of Life” in Disney’s coming of age story that has captured the hearts and imagination of audiences around the world. The story of Simba and his journey through the dangers of the African savannah is told through the vibrant music of Elton John. With its energetic choreography, detailed costumes, animal masks and a cast of unforgettable characters, The Lion King Jr. promises to be an epic event.
A Broadway spectacular comes to The Company Theatre stage in The Little Mermaid (adult production) from July 28 through August 20. In a magical kingdom beneath the sea, the inquisitive mermaid Ariel quests for life on land when she falls in love with the human Prince Eric. She must defy her father King Triton, escape the clutches of the evil sea witch Ursula, and engage in the ultimate battle of good and evil. Alan Menken’s delightful score with full orchestra, imaginative costumes, sparkling scenery and a special cast of characters brings this undersea world to life. There is joy to be found ‘under the sea’ for the young and young at heart in this beloved Disney classic.
In one of New England’s most shocking, unsolved mysteries to this day, Lizzie, playing from October 13 through 29, portrays the demure spinster Lizzie Borden accused of murdering her father and stepmother in cold blood. Written by local playwright Steve Dooner, the plot reveals one possible truth behind the gruesome crime committed in Fall River, Massachusetts. This psychological thriller is based on meticulous research on what was once declared “The Trial of the Century.” Lizzie is a fascinating and fast-paced drama that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
