WICKED LOCAL PLYMOUTH.com – The Spire Center for the Performing Arts is rolling out the Plymouth Rock Assurance Jazz Festival this weekend, and the time to get your tickets is now.
Spanning the entire three-day Memorial Day weekend, the Jazz Festival kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 24, with Plymouth’s own jazzman and trumpet player Johnny Souza and the Johnny Souza Quintet, followed by the Bebop Guitars and reaching a crescendo when jazz great Rebecca Parris hits the stage with the Rebecca Parris Trio.
Parris has shared the stage with the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Gary Burton, Buddy Rich and Red Mitchell.
The jazz continues from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 25 with the Yasko Kubota Power Jazz Unit, the Greg Abate Quartet and the Amanda Carr Quintet scheduled to bring the house down.
Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, features a special treat with Johnny Souza hosting a Jazz Jam Session. This is a rare opportunity for local instrument and vocal musicians to sign up at the door to join the house band, featuring established jazz musicians on bass, drums and piano. A drum set, digital piano, bass amplifier, vocal microphones and house sound system will be available to participating performers.
Tickets cost $25 per day for Saturday’s and Sunday’s shows, and $10 for the Jazz Jam Session, for both audience members and performers. Seating is limited, so snapping up some advance tickets is advisable by visiting spirecenter.org or calling 508-746-4488.
