HINGHAM PATCH, Hingham – Berklee Stars at SSC features eclectic blend of soul, funk, R&B and hip-hop
South Shore Conservatory (SSC) continues its partnership with Berklee College of Music to present Berklee Stars at SSC, a Friday night outdoor entertainment series featuring Berklee’s most promising solo musicians and bands in the Jane Carr Amphitheater on the Conservatory’s Hingham campus.
Sponsored by William Gallagher Associates for the second year running, Berklee Stars at SSC is one of three concert series in the Conservatory’s new Summer Spotlight series. WATD’s Almost Famous show is the media partner for Berklee Stars. Other series include Evenings Under the Stars Saturday evening concerts, and Wacky Wednesday family concerts.
“This series is a great way to kick off the summer,” says SSC Director of Performance Beth MacLeod Largent. “The atmosphere is alive in the amphitheater, and the music is just electric! These young musicians bring a new magnitude of energy.”
Berklee Stars at SSC originated as an offshoot of Berklee’s broad performance series Berklee Presents, which showcases students at prominent events such as Newport Folk and Jazz Festivals, Washington D.C. Jazz Festival and South by Southwest (SxSW) arts festivals. Michael Borgida, Berklee’s Marketing Manager chose SSC as a performance venue for Berklee students because both schools have similar goals in providing the best performance space for their students. “As soon as we visited the Conservatory’s ideal performance arena, we knew we had a perfect fit,” he said. “We’re thrilled to showcase our students at the Conservatory’s popular, established concert destination.”
Berklee Stars at SSC 2013 hits the summer stage in late June with Cosmodrome, led by vocalist Madison McFerrin (Bobby McFerrin’s daughter) on June 21, followed by singer/songwriter Carly Tefft on June 28, R&B/soul singer/songwriter Nile Alexander on July 5 and singer/songwriter Nick Hakim on July 12. All one-hour performances start at 8 pm.
Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at http://www.sscmusic.org/berklee_stars.html or by calling 781-749-7565, ext. 22. The Jane Car Amphitheater is located at One Conservatory Drive in Hingham.
